AFCON 2027: CS Ababu Conducts Surprise Inspection at Kasarani

Nairobi, Kenya, February 1 – The Minister of Sports, Ababu Namwamba, paid a surprise visit to the Moi Sports Centre Kasarani. The center is currently closed for renovations in preparation for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which Kenya is hosting alongside neighboring countries Uganda and Tanzania.

Accompanied by Pius Metto, the Director General of Sports Kenya, Namwamba inspected the ongoing renovation work at the facility, which has been shut down since last month.

Namwamba expressed confidence in the progress of the renovations, assuring that the government, through his ministry, would closely oversee the stadium’s readiness for inspection.

He commended the Ministry of Defense, which is supervising the renovations, for their dedication to achieving the quality standards required by FIFA and CAF.

Moi Sports Centre Kasarani, along with Nyayo Stadium and Kipchoge Keino Stadium, has been chosen as a potential venue for the 2027 AFCON. Additionally, the government plans to build a new football-specific stadium called Talanta Stadium at Jamuhuri grounds.

While Nyayo National Stadium is also scheduled for renovations, work on it has not yet begun.
