What is the Difference Between GPA and Cumulative GPA (CGPA)?
GPA stands for Grade Point Average, and CGPA is Cumulative Grade Point Average. The main difference between GPA and CGPA is that GPA is calculated for a single semester (in the semester system) or a year (in the annual system), while CGPA is calculated for multiple semesters or years.
Weighted GPA vs Unweighted GPA
The unweighted GPA treats all courses equally, assigning the same value to each. In contrast, the weighted GPA assigns different values based on the difficulty of the courses, giving more weight to advanced courses. Additionally, while the unweighted GPA is capped at 4.0, the weighted GPA can extend beyond that, often up to 5.0 or even higher.
Weights and Values
- Regular: 0.0 (no additional points)
- Honors: 0.5
- AP: 1.0
- IB: 1.0 (same as AP)
- College: 1.0 (same as AP and IB)
