The Generation Google Scholarship for Women in Computer Science was created to support female students pursuing computer science degrees to excel in technology and become leaders in their fields. Successful applicants will receive $2,500 USD for the 2023-2024 academic year. This scholarship will be granted based on the candidate’s academic performance, demonstrated leadership, and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Generation Google Scholarship invites all eligible students, particularly women interested in computer science, to apply. However, previous recipients of any of the following Google Scholarships: Generation Google Scholarship, Generation Google Scholarship for Women in Gaming, Generation Google Scholarship for Supply Chain and Fulfillment, Google Lime Scholarship, Google Student Veterans of America Scholarship, Women Techmakers Scholarship for Computer Science, Women Techmakers Scholarship for Gaming, and people are not eligible to reapply.

The selection process for the Generation Google Scholarship for Women in Computer Science takes into account several criteria, such as a strong dedication to diversity, equity, and inclusion, proven leadership skills, and excellent academic performance. This program welcomes applications from eligible students who meet the minimum requirements, and we highly encourage women who are interested in pursuing a career in computer science to submit their applications.

Who can apply?

To apply for this opportunity, applicants must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Currently, be a full-time second or third-year undergraduate student enrolled in an accredited university located in one of the eligible Asia Pacific countries (please refer to the ‘Eligible Asia Pacific countries’ list).
  • Have the intention to pursue a full-time Bachelor’s program at an accredited university located in one of the eligible Asia Pacific countries (please refer to the ‘Eligible Asia Pacific countries’ list) during the 2023-2024 academic year.
  • Be studying computer science, computer engineering, or a closely related technical field.
  • Possess a strong academic record.
  • Demonstrate leadership qualities and exhibit a passion for improving the representation of underrepresented groups in computer science and technology.
  • Participate in Google’s Online Challenge, which will evaluate the applicants’ coding abilities.

Application process

As part of the application process, you will need to fill out an online application, which comprises the following components:

  1. General background information, such as your contact details and information about your current and intended universities.
  2. A copy of your resume or curriculum vitae (CV).
  3. Academic transcripts from your present educational institution (and any previous ones, if applicable).
  4. Short answer essay questions, the details of which will be provided when the application is launched.
  5. Google Online Challenge, which is a coding assessment. You will receive an invitation to take the challenge 5-7 business days after the application deadline.

Please note that the Google Online Challenge serves only as an additional data point in the overall assessment of your application.

Generation Google Scholarship’s Terms and conditions

The Generation Google Scholarship for Women in Computer Science requires that awarded funds must be used for tuition, fees, books, supplies, and equipment necessary for a student’s classes at their primary university. To be eligible, recipients must be enrolled as full-time students during the 2023-2024 academic year. After selection, enrollment will be verified, and all scholarship payments will be sent directly to the student for education-related expenses. The award may be withheld or revoked if the recipient no longer meets or fails to maintain eligibility requirements. Instructions for receiving the award will be provided by Google to the selected recipients, who must complete the necessary steps before the specified deadline. On a case-by-case basis, recipients may defer their award for up to one year from the planned payment date. Google employees are not eligible for this scholarship, and individuals who reside in or are otherwise restricted by embargoed countries or applicable export controls and sanctions programs may not apply.
